SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Ansley Speaks has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 20-26. Speaks went 6-0 in all competition last week as the Paladins picked up three wins, including conference victories over Wofford (6-1) and UNCG (7-0). The Paladins also scored a 6-1 win over Charlotte last week.

Speaks improved her record to 16-3 this spring with three straight victories at No. 1 singles. The senior posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Wofford’s Catherine Martin and rallied for a 6-7, 7-5, 10-3 win over Charlotte’s Victoria Pahlett before downing UNCG’s Masey DeMoss, 6-1, 6-0.

The Simpsonville, S.C., native was paired with Aryn Greene at No. 1 doubles and Furman’s top pair earned three wins to move to 15-4 together on the season. Speaks and Greene posted identical 6-1 wins over Wofford’s Kallie Karas and Cassidy Hicks and Charlotte’s Pierina Imparato and Pahlett. Speaks and Green then blanked UNCG’s DeMoss and Alice Taylor, 6-0.

Furman (16-5, 3-0 SoCon) returns to action Friday (March 31) when the Paladins visit Samford (8-8, 0-2 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Ioanna Markesini, Mercer’s Katia Stavroulaki, UNCG’s Sophia Adams, Samford’s Ellie Gerlach, Chattanooga’s Samantha Caswell, Western Carolina’s Lauren McCall and Wofford’s Cassidy Hicks.
