Mercer’s Quinn Named Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder Matt Quinn has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held March 8-14, the league office announced Wednesday.

Quinn led the Bears with five points on two goals and three assists last week in Mercer’s 10-7 win at NJIT on Friday and Sunday’s 6-5 victory at Wagner. The Stevensville, Maryland, native was particularly effective against NJIT, notching four points off a goal and a career-high three assists, while scooping a career-high four ground balls. Against Wager, Quinn scored a crucial third quarter goal to put the Bears up 5-4 entering the fourth quarter.

In the classroom, Quinn boasts a 3.56 grade point average as a finance major.

The General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes that hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and whose sport is currently in-season. Nominees must have also completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions.
