Women's Indoor Track and Field Southern Conference

Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Matt Moore and Samford’s Tray Oates have been named the Southern Conference men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the week, respectively, while Furman’s Allie Buchalski and Samford’s Megan Meadow claimed honors on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday. Selections were made a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included competition held Feb. 1-7.

Moore placed third for ETSU at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational in the men’s 60m, dashing across the finish line in 6.79 seconds - just 0.06 seconds behind first-place. The senior’s time of 6.79 seconds overtook Greg Henderson’s (VMI) previous SoCon season-best of 6.83 seconds, which he set at the dual meet against The Citadel on Jan. 28.

Oates garners his second consecutive SoCon Field Athlete of the Week honor after winning the men’s pole vault at ETSU’s Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational.  Oates shattered his own SoCon season-best of 5.20m (17-4.5) with a new mark of 5.40m (17-8.5). The junior’s height of 5.40m (17-8.5) is good for No. 13 in the nation and is currently the top mark in the SoCon by nearly a foot.

Buchalski set the nation’s leading time and broke her own Paladin record in the women’s 3,000m run at the Camel City Invitational on Friday. The senior was the top collegiate finisher and placed second overall, posting a time of 9:06.88 to slash nearly seven a seconds of her previous best of 9:13.39, which she set last month.

Meadow, a sophomore, won the women’s triple jump at ETSU Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational with a conference-leading jump of 12.19m (40-0). The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native bested her previous mark of 11.96m (39-3), which she set at the Vanderbilt Invitational last month.
