UTC's Patton Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Sydney Patton has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 20-26. Patton captured a pair of singles wins last week as Chattanooga posted wins over Jacksonville State (6-1) and Middle Tennessee (4-2).

The Simpsonville, S.C., native posted a pair of straight-set wins in singles at No. 4.  Patton cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jacksonville State’s Malin Buechner and picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over MTSU’s Marta Perris Herrero.

In Patton’s other competition this week, she and teammate Delaney Edwards suffered a 6-3 loss at No. 2 doubles to MTSU’s Lidia Burrows and Constanza Magazzini.

Patton leads the Mocs with a 9-1 singles record this spring, including an 8-0 mark at the No. 4 position.

The Mocs (9-2) return to action Sunday (March 5) when they host UNCG (1-7) in a Southern Conference match.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Marina Guinart, Furman’s Hannah Ferrett, Mercer’s Haley Powell, UNCG’s Nancy Bridges, Samford’s Annika Hepp, Western Carolina’s Alexa Webb and Wofford’s Curran Carver.
