SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Richmond attackman Teddy Hatfield and goalkeeper Benny Pugh have been named Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for men’s lacrosse, respectively, for all games played through Feb. 13, the league office announced Tuesday. Selections are made by the conference office.
Hatfield set a program record for points in a single game in the Spiders’ 15-3 win over No. 17 Fairfield on Saturday in Richmond, Virginia. The sophomore recorded a game-high four assists and tied a game high with teammate Ryan Lee with four goals. The Summit, New Jersey, native shot an efficient 50 percent with seven of his eight attempts on goal. Hatfield’s four goals scored in a single game is the second-most in his career as he also recorded his second career hat trick.
Pugh was sensational in net for the Spiders in Saturday’s home win over Fairfield, allowing the second-fewest goals in the country in the first week of action. The Powhatan, Virginia, native saved 14 of the 17 shots on goal, which is good for the sixth-most saves in a game in Spider history. Pugh held Fairfield’s Colin Burke, a Preseason All-American, to just one goal and stopped the Fairfield attackman five times.
SoCon lacrosse action resumes Tuesday when High Point hosts Georgetown with the first faceoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
