SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Tiffany Laughren and teammate Madison Ogle have been named Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games held Feb. 10-12, the league announced Monday. Selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
Laughren was sensational in the opening weekend for ETSU at Gardner-Webb’s AmericInn Classic in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, leading the Bucs to claim the tournament’s title and post their best five-game start in program history. The sophomore outfielder hit a stellar .750 from the plate, recording at least one hit in each of the Bucs’ five games, including multi-hit performances in four of them. In Sunday’s championship game against Alabama A&M, Laughren went 3-for-3 and scored the game-winning run in the Bucs’ 3-2 title win over the Bulldogs.
Ogle earned one win and two saves for the Bucs with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 10 2/3 innings pitched at the AmericInn Classic this past weekend. In the Bucs’ opening game of the season against North Carolina A&T on Friday, Ogle surrendered only three hits and no walks in five innings pitched, guiding ETSU to a 6-1 win over the Aggies. On Saturday, the junior right-hander recorded back-to-back saves against Alabama A&M and Gardner-Webb, respectively, to help advance the Bucs to Sunday’s championship game.
Other nominees for player of the week: Quirisa Mauga (Mercer), Emily Acquaviva (UNCG), Abbie Miranda (Samford) and Aly Walker (Chattanooga).
