BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s track and field team opened the indoor season Friday with a sixth-place finish at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern College at the CrossPlex.

The Mocs scored 40 points, finishing ahead of UAB (36) and Emory (11.75). Embry-Riddle took first in the season-opening event with 81 points, followed by Troy with 69 points. Tulane and Alabama State tied for third with 61 points and Georgia Tech rounded out the top five with 60 points.

Emily Poole earned 10 points as the top collegiate runner across the line in the women’s 3,000-meter run. She finished in a time of 10:20.43 with Rebekah Wich finishing two spots behind in a time of 10:37.84. Sophia Neglia was right behind in a time of 10:37.90. The trio all recorded personal-best times and earned 20 of the Mocs’ 40 points.

Brianna Nelson took second in the collegiate division in the mile run with a time of 5:16.80 and Haley Morris added four points to the Mocs’ total, placing fifth overall in a time of 5:23.28.

The women’s distance medley relay team finished second with a team time of 12:35.50 and earned another eight points for the Mocs.
