Wofford's Magee named player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford junior guard Fletcher Magee was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Dec. 5-11 after averaging 29 points per game in a pair of home wins. The award is selected by the league office.

Magee opened his week by matching his career high with 36 points in leading the Terriers to a 63-60 win over Georgia Tech on Dec. 6. The Orlando, Florida, native hit a jumper with just over a minute left in the game to give Wofford its first lead of the second half and then hit the winning 3-pointer with just 1.9 seconds left in the game as the Terriers picked up their first-ever home win over a current ACC school. Magee, who also pulled down four rebounds and had two steals and played all 40 minutes, was 12-for-22 from the floor and 8-for-14 from 3-point range in the contest.

In Saturday’s win over Johnson & Wales, Magee scored 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting and corralled four more rebounds in just 15 minutes of work. He was 4-for-5 from 3-point range.

For the week, Magee shot 62.5 percent (20-for-32) from the floor and 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from 3-point range. He was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to remain perfect on the season, moving to 22-for-22.

Magee is storming through the SoCon record book this season, as his career 3-point percentage is now up to 46.5, good for second in league history, and his career free-throw percentage is 91.6, which is tops in SoCon annals.
