Davidson falls to George Mason in Friday matinee

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team returned to action Friday afternoon with a nonconference dual meet against George Mason University at Belk Arena. The ‘Cats fell to the Patriots, 30-6.

Davidson falls to 3-5 in dual-meet action this season, while George Mason improves to 2-7 overall.

In a match that began in the 184-pound class, it took until Dustin Runzo at 133 pounds to get Davidson on the board. Runzo managed to come from behind in the final frame to knot up the score at 5 and went on to claim a quick sudden victory in the first overtime period with a takedown to claim the class, 7-5.

The Wildcats’ only other victory was also by way of sudden victory. Sophomore Tony Palumbo earned a hard-fought 3-1 decision at 157-pounds.

Davidson finished the day with a pair of tight decision losses. Noah Satterfield fell to Daniel Mika, 3-2, at 165 pounds, while Conor Fenn let a 2-1 decision slip away late to Patrick Davis at 174.

The Wildcats return to the mats Sunday, Jan. 8, when they take on Clarion in Boone, North Carolina, on the campus of Appalachian State.
