SPARTANS HOST 19 TEAMS AT UNCG DUAL MEET MADNESS
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG men’s and women’s track and field was in action in its only home match of the 2017 season Sunday afternoon. The Spartans hosted 19 teams from around the area in the UNCG Dual Meet Madness. UNCG Dual Meet Madness was the Spartans’ third meet of the 2016-17 indoor season. The Spartans are back in action next Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The men’s team was led by several distance runners. Alex Roy finished fourth in the men’s one mile run with a time of 4:30.83. Luke Sumerford added a top ten finish, coming in eighth with a time of 4:33.32. Brandon King was just outside the top 10, coming in at 11th in the mile run with a time of 4:37.57.
Patrick O’Grady and William Sandin finished fourth (9:07.19) and fifth (9:08.27), respectively in the 3,000 meter race.
Jeffery Beane added a top ten finish in the 60 meter hurdles, coming in seventh with a time of 8.71.
On the women’s side, Taylor Delaney led the way with a 5:05.52 time in the women’s one mile race. Kaitlyn Stone added a top five finish in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:35.90.
MOCS GET SIX TOP 10 FINISHES AT THE UNCG DUAL MEET MADNESS
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s indoor track and field team placed six runners in the Top 10 at the UNCG Dual Meet Madness Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
“We had several improved performances,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said.
Senior Anna Kate Chance and freshman Kennedy Thomson each placed fourth in their races.
Chance covered the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:42.56 with freshman Hannah Caldwell placing ninth with a time of 10:41.19 and freshman Rebekah Wich right behind in 10th at 10:52.09.
Thomson placed fourth in the women’s mIle with a time of 5:12.74. “Kennedy’s time wasn’t up to her usual standards, but it was a decent enough time.”
Freshman Abby Bateman placed ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.75. Sophomore Nicole Buehrle finished the middle distance race in a time of 2:22.16 in 10th place.
The pair finished second-third in their heat while sophomore Haley Morris was third in hers and improved from last week’s season-opener.
“Abby ran an outstanding 800 meter,” Meyer said. “Julia Henderson and Hannah [Caldwell] had solid races. Everyone is gaining fitness and experience and looking towards continued improvement.”
Several members of the men’s cross country team will compete next weekend at the MTSU Invitational while the women will take the weekend off in preparation for the Samford Invitational on February 10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
