SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb 174-pounder Austin Trott has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Jan. 18-24. The selection is made by the league office.

Trott went 3-0 with a pair of first-period falls in a busy week for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, who faced three league opponents on the road in a five-day span.

The redshirt senior pinned Campbell’s Alex Herringshaw in 2:28 on Friday before sticking The Citadel’s Jason Carr in just 1:29 the next day. Trott picked up his biggest win of the week on Tuesday, earning a 9-3 decision over 17th-ranked Nick Kee as Gardner-Webb dropped a close match at No. 16 Appalachian State, 19-17. Trott’s win knotted the team score at 13 after the Mountaineers jumped out to a 13-0 lead. The Runnin’ Bulldogs would eventually take a 17-13 lead before App rallied for the narrow win.

Trott’s perfect week moved him to 15-1 on the season, including 9-0 in duals and 4-0 in SoCon action. He has won 10 straight league matches and 15 of his last 16.

The weekly award is the fourth of the Kingsland, Georgia, native’s career. He has now taken the award once in each of the four seasons.

Gardner-Webb (5-4, 2-2 SoCon) returns to the mats Saturday, when it heads to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on league foe SIUE (2-9, 2-2 SoCon) and 17th-ranked South Dakota State (8-3, 4-1 Big 12).

Also nominated: Vito Pasone (Appalachian State), Nathan Kraisser (Campbell), Aaron Walker (The Citadel), Jake Residori (SIUE) and Alonzo Allen (Chattanooga).
