TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Mercer wrapped up play in the Florida State Invitational on Sunday, falling to Florida Atlantic, 4-0.

The Owls won the doubles point with wins at flights one and three to start the match. The Bears were serving for the doubles point, but were unable to gain the 1-0 advantage in the match. Florida Atlantic won the first three singles matches to sweep Mercer, 4-0.

Olivier Stuart’s match at flight three went to three sets and the three unfinished matches were all in playing three sets as well. Stuart, Sam Philp, Nicolas Guillon, and Efstathios Tsiranidis all won their first set and were then forced to play a third. Guillon was up 5-2 at flight 2 when the match was clinched by the Owls.

“We can’t lose matches when we’re serving for the doubles point and winning four of six first sets in singles,” said head coach Eric Hayes. “Florida Atlantic was tougher than we were today and we have two weeks to get tougher before our next match.”
