CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Mercer outfielder Trey Truitt received Preseason All-America honors Monday as Perfect Game announced its 2017 Preseason All-America Teams.

A third-team selection, Truitt is the only baseball player from the state of Georgia or from the Southern Conference to be recognized.

Last season as a sophomore, Truitt hit .335 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs. He finished the season ranked 15th in the nation in runs scored (64), 18th in the nation in home runs, 19th nationally in runs per game (1.08) and 22nd in the nation in total bases (150).

A product of Rehobeth High School in Dothan, Alabama, Truitt posted a .636 slugging percentage (ranking 35th nationally) last year. He led Mercer with 35 extra-base hits and posted 14 multi-RBI games on the year. He was named second-team all-conference and received SoCon All-Tournament honors.

Truitt helped lead the Bears to a 38-23 mark and a Southern Conference regular-season championship. The Bears are one of only seven Division I programs to have won 35 or more games in each of the last seven seasons.
