GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior Bobby Edet netted his first goal of the season in the 101st minute to lift the Furman men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Presbyterian in double overtime Wednesday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

With the victory, Furman improved to 2-1-1 on the season and secured its first home victory of 2016. Presbyterian slipped to 1-4-0.

Less than one minute into the second of two 10-minute overtime periods, Emery May centered a pass to Josiah Baker, who slipped past a defender before feeding Lewis Hawke at the top of the box. Hawke touched a pass wide to Edet on the left side of the box and the Frisco, Texas, native hammered a shot into the right-side netting to deliver the Paladins the 1-0 victory.

Furman created numerous chances throughout the night, including 10 shots on goal and two Edet shots in the first half that slid inches wide of the right post. The Paladins, who managed a 23-9 shots edge, held Presbyterian to just four shots on goal. Sophomore Jonathan Smith recorded four saves for the Paladins to notch his second shutout of the season.

Presbyterian’s Conner Behrend turned away nine Paladin shots, including five second-half saves, before Edet’s goal at the 100:56 mark.

Furman caps its homestand on Saturday night when it entertains 16th-ranked Kentucky.
