SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Frank Lara and Savannah Carnahan have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Sept. 1-3, the league office announced Wednesday.

Lara, a junior from Houston, Texas, won the men’s individual title at the Eye Opener Invitational, hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. He posted a time of 25:16.88 in the men’s 8K, leading the Paladins to the men’s team title at the meet against Clemson, Wofford, Stetson and host USC Upstate.

Carnahan, a freshman, also won the individual title at the Eye Opener Invitational with a time of 17:25.95 on the 5K course. The Cumming, Ga., native paced the Paladin women’s squad to a first-place team finish. Carnahan bested the second-place finisher by nearly 30 seconds.

The Paladins will compete at the Furman University Cross Country Classic on Sept. 10.
