SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman cross country runner Frank Lara has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Aug. 31 – Sept. 6, the league office announced Wednesday.
Lara, a junior from Houston, Texas, won the men’s individual title at the Eye Opener Invitational cross country meet, hosted by USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. He posted a time of 25:16.88 in the men’s 8K, leading the Paladins to the men’s team title at the meet.
In the classroom, Lara boasts a 3.66 grade point average as a health sciences major.
Also nominated for SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week: Briana Allmon (ETSU), Paige Alsten (Mercer), Miranda Elpers (Chattanooga) and Kasey Cooke (Western Carolina).
