• All nine Southern Conference teams are in action Saturday, Oct. 1.  ETSU, Samford, VMI and Western Carolina host league games while Furman plays host to Kennesaw State in a nonconference game.

• The Citadel Bulldogs and Chattanooga Mocs are ranked in both weekly FCS polls. UTC is ranked third in the coaches poll and fifth in the STATS, Inc., poll. The Citadel is ranked tenth by the coaches and ninth in the STATS, Inc., poll.
• Samford and Wofford are among the teams receiving votes.

• Four of the league’s six conference games this season have been decided by one possession. Since the start of the 2013 season, 42 of 98 (.438) league games have been decided by one possession.

• Southern Conference teams are 9-0 against FCS nonconference opponents in 2016. League teams have two more nonconference games against FCS opponents.

• Southern Conference teams are 6-0 at home in nonconference games this season.
• SoCon teams are 82-21 (.799) at home in nonconference games since the start of the 2010 season.
• Home teams are 4-2 in conference play this year and are 53-42 since the start of 2013.
