SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Treva Aycock has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 19-25 after scoring nine points as the Paladins opened league play with a pair of wins. The selection is made by the league office.
Aycock scored both game-winners for Furman on the week, notching a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Chattanooga on Friday before recording her first career hat trick in Sunday’s 3-2 win over preseason SoCon favorite Samford. She also earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week for her efforts.
Returning to the Paladin lineup following a seven-game absence with injury, Aycock, a freshman, opened the scoring against the Mocs in the 21st minute for her first career goal. She would later assist on Furman’s fourth goal for her first collegiate assist.
Two days later in a battle of SoCon powers, Aycock twice rallied Furman from one-goal deficits before notching the game-winning tally with just minutes left in the contest. After Samford went ahead in the 41st minute, Aycock scored just 22 seconds into the second half to pull the Paladins level. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the 54th minute, but the Marietta, Georgia, rookie again had the quick answer, scoring her second goal of the day in the in the 56th minute to make it a 2-2 affair. Aycock completed the hat trick and lifted the Paladins to the win with her strike at the 86:02 mark.
Furman (8-1-1, 2-0-0 SoCon) returns to action Friday when it battles VMI (4-6-0, 1-0-0) in Lexington, Virginia, at 4 p.m. The Paladins will then face UNCG (3-7-1, 0-1-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.
