SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer libero Tori Penrod has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Sept. 14-20, the league office announced Wednesday.
Penrod, a junior from Jupiter, Fla., was named the Southern Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after leading Mercer to three straight wins at the Mercer Invite this past weekend. The senior libero played in all 13 sets and recorded at least 20 digs in each match to average 5.23 digs per set. Her peak performance came in the Mercer Invite-clinching match against USC Upstate on Saturday as she tallied 27 digs, her second-best performance of the season. Penrod currently ranks second among SoCon players in digs per set (5.13).
In the classroom, Penrod boasts a 4.00 grade point average as a sports business major.
