SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Molly Dwyer has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 12-18 after scoring seven points in a pair of Paladin wins. The selection is made by the league office.

Dwyer scored three goals and assisted on another as Furman downed Presbyterian 3-0 on Tuesday and South Carolina State 8-0 on Friday.

Against the Blue Hose, Dwyer drew a penalty kick in the 29th minute that teammate Rachel Shah converted to stake Furman to a 1-0 lead. Just 24 seconds of game time later, Dwyer scored her first goal of the day to double the lead. The Knoxville, Tennessee, junior added her second of the day in the 90th minute as Furman claimed the shutout win.

Dwyer padded her SoCon scoring lead with a goal and an assist against the Lady Bulldogs, finding the back of the net just 35 seconds into the match for what would prove to be the game-winner. She also assisted on a Carlie Couch goal in the 25th minute, which made it a 3-0 game.

Dwyer, who earned weekly SoCon honors for the first time in her career, leads the conference with six goals and 15 points.

Furman, off to a 6-1-1 start to the season, opens SoCon play Friday when it hosts Chattanooga (2-6-1, 0-0-0 SoCon) at 7 p.m. The Paladins, the defending SoCon tournament champions, close their three-game homestand against two-time defending SoCon regular-season champion Samford (4-2-2, 0-0-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
