-Seven SoCon teams take the field Saturday, Sept. 17.  Furman hosts Chattanooga in a conference game, while ETSU and Western Carolina will square off at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon.  Wofford and Mercer host nonconference games, while The Citadel visits Gardner-Webb

•The Citadel Bulldogs and Chattanooga Mocs are ranked in both weekly FCS polls. UTC is ranked fourth in the coaches poll and sixth in the STATS, Inc., poll. The Citadel is ranked No. 15 in both polls.
• Furman, Mercer, Samford, Western Carolina and Wofford are among the teams receiving votes.

•Both of the league’s conference games this season have been decided by one possession. Since the start of the 2013 season, 40 of 94 (.426) league games have been decided by one possession.

• Southern Conference teams are 6-0 against FCS nonconference opponents in 2016. League teams have five more nonconference games against FCS opponents, including two this weekend.

• Southern Conference teams are 4-0 at home in nonconference this season.
• SoCon teams are 80-21 (.792) at home in nonconference games since the start of the 2010 season.
• Home teams are 1-1 in conference play this year and are 50-41 since the start of 2013.

•The Southern Conference has one player on the STATS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List and two on the Defensive Player of the Year Watch List.
• Offensive Player of the Year - Derrick Craine (Chattanooga).
• Defensive Player of the Year - Keionta Davis (Chattanooga) and Dee Delaney (The Citadel).
