SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Paul Stuart and Furman freshman Savannah Carnahan have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition held Sept. 9-10, the league office announced Wednesday.
Stuart, a graduate student from Brentwood, Tenn., placed seventh at the 25th annual PowerAde Invitational, hosted by UTC in Chattanooga, Tenn. He posted a time of 15:39.06 in the men’s 5K, leading the Mocs to a third-place finish against Middle Tennessee State, Alabama, Austin Peay, Samford and Mercer. Stuart currently holds the top time for the men’s 5K among SoCon runners (15:28.00) from the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn.
Carnahan won her second consecutive individual title this season at the Furman Cross Country Classic on Saturday with a time of 20:37.78 on the 6K course. The Cumming, Ga., native paced the Paladin women’s squad to a first-place team finish. Carnahan, who was also last week’s SoCon women’s runner of the week, has the top time (20.37.78) in the women’s 6K among all SoCon runners.
