Greensboro, N.C. - UNCG’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2016 season Thursday evening at the Elon Invitational in Burlington, N.C. The men’s squad was led by Luke Sumerford who earned a seventh place finish, helping the Spartans to third place as a team in the meet. On the women’s side, the Blue & Gold finished fifth overall while senior Katy Link clocked a 15:06, good for 11^th overall.

William Sandin missed a top-10 finish clocking a 19:29 for 11^th place while the Spartans’ Patrick O'Grady was 21^st overall. Robel Tecle and Brandon King rounded out UNCG’s top five finishers who all placed inside the top-30 overall.

Taylor Delaney and Kaitlyn Stone earned 13^th and 19^th place finished for the women’s squad in their first collegiate races. Sarah Desantis and Kelsey Barrett completed the Spartans’ top five placing 31^st and 35^th overall.

UNCG will have two week’s rest before lining up on the course for the Wolfpack Invitational in Cary, N.C., September 16.
