Samford?s Borman named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford forward Taylor Borman has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 22-28 after turning in a goal and two assists against a pair of SEC teams. The selection is made by the league office.

Borman assisted on Samford’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Georgia on Friday, helping stake Samford to an early 1-0 lead.

Against No. 24 Auburn on Sunday, Borman notched a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs flirted with knocking off their ranked in-state opponent before ultimately falling 4-3. After the Tigers opened the scoring in the sixth minute, the senior from Georgetown, Ky., pulled Samford level less than two minutes later. Later in the match, Auburn made it a 4-2 game in the 52nd minute, but Borman was again part of a quick response, assisting on a goal just 44 seconds later as Samford kept the pressure on.

Borman pushed her career totals to 10 goals, 21 assists and 41 career points. She’s second among active SoCon players in career assists and fifth in points.

Samford heads to Houston, Texas, this weekend for matches at Rice on Friday and Houston on Sunday.

Also nominated: Logan Leask (The Citadel), Eleonora Goldoni (ETSU), Carlie Couch (Furman), Cristina Mursuli (Mercer), Melanie Spensiero (UNCG), Blake Cashin (VMI) and Katie Beuerlein (Wofford).
