SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU outside hitter Rylee Milhorn has been named the SoCon offensive player of the week, while Furman libero Meg DeMaar is the defensive player of the week for matches played Aug. 26-28, the conference office announced today.
Milhorn led a Bucs team that has yet to drop a set after posting three consecutive shutouts at the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge last weekend. The junior recorded 32 kills (3.56 per set), 27 digs (3.00 per set) and 5.0 blocks (0.56 per set), while hitting .366 on 71 total attempts this season. Milhorn posted a match-high 12 kills with a .348 hitting percentage during Friday’s season-opening contest against Austin Peay. Her most impressive performance came against Troy as she tallied 16 kills on 31 attempts for a hitting percentage of .452. Milhorn was named the MVP of the tournament and currently ranks third in the league in hitting percentage and fourth in kills per set with 3.56.
DeMaar averaged 5.36 digs per set after the Paladins went 1-2 at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala., this past weekend. The junior libero posted match-high 23 digs against University of the Pacific, holding the Tigers to a .204 hitting percentage. In the Paladins’ 3-1 win over Auburn, DeMaar led the Furman defense with 15 digs and held opposing hitters to a .167 hitting percentage. During Saturday’s final contest against Georgia Tech, DeMaar notched 21 digs while chipping in four assists and two service aces.
