SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford goalkeeper Katie Peters has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 19-21 after posting a pair of shutouts in the Bulldogs’ season-opening weekend of play. The selection is made by the league office.

Samford went 1-0-1 against in-state foes to open the season, playing to a scoreless draw at South Alabama on Friday and picking up a 2-0 win over Troy on Sunday. Peters played all 200 minutes in the net for the week, with her pair of shutouts pushing her career total to 10.

She opened her week with a career-high eight saves in the double-overtime draw against the Jaguars, which were sitting just outside the top 25 in the preseason NSCAA poll. Peters faced 17 shots against USA. The junior from Childersburg, Ala., faced seven shots against Troy but was not forced to make a save.

Dating back to last season, Peters has not allowed a goal in 315 minutes, 38 seconds and has allowed just one goal in 712:29.

Samford returns to action Friday for a 7 p.m. contest at Georgia that can be seen on the SEC Network+.
