SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Mike Williams and Western Carolina’s Jamie Brown have been tabbed SoCon Track and Field Athletes of the Week on the men’s side, respectively, while Samford’s Karisa Nelson and Western Carolina’s Hailey Cook claimed the women’s honors, the league office announced Wednesday.

Williams, a junior from Mt. Laurel, N.J., clocked a SoCon-best time of 51.91 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles at the Florida Relays over the weekend on the way to men’s track honors. His time was good for a 12th-place finish out of 52 competitors.

Nelson claimed women’s track honors by running a school-record 4:22.23 in the 1,500-meter run at the Florida Relays. The sophomore for the Bulldogs earned an 11th-place finish at the meet, and her mark currently leads all league competitors by 12 seconds.

Brown, who has had a tremendous freshman campaign for Western Carolina, won the long jump at the Wofford Terrier Relays with a SoCon-best leap of 7.50 meters (24' 7.25") en route to men’s field honors. His effort leads the conference by a foot and a half and was only 0.12 meters shy of WCU’s school record. The Knightdale, N.C., native also recorded a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75").

Brown is the third freshman to earn a weekly award during the outdoor season, joining ETSU’s Kyra Atkins and Wofford’s LeAndrea Combo.

Fellow Catamount Cook took women’s field accolades after sweeping the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw at the Terrier Relays. The junior from Hendersonville, N.C., had her best performance in the shot put, notching a SoCon-best throw of 14.57 meters (47’ 9.75”). She recorded marks of 42.43 meters (139' 2") and 44.98 meters (147' 7") in the discus and hammer throws, respectively.
