SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer senior Natalie Shiver has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held March 30-April 5, the league office announced Wednesday.

A catcher on the Bears’ softball team, Shiver was productive at the plate during a four-game nonconference road swing that began at Alabama State last Wednesday. She hit .538 (7-for-13) and tallied at least one hit and one RBI in three of Mercer’s four contests, posting a slugging percentage of .846 and an on-base percentage of .625 for the week.

In the nightcap at Alabama State, Shiver blasted a three-run homer and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs as the Bears used an offensive explosion to down the Hornets, 16-5. The Leesburg, Ga., native also saved her best for last in Mercer’s twin bill at Virginia Tech on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs in a narrow loss to the Hokies in the day’s second game. Her four hits marked Mercer’s individual season high.

Shiver, a sports business and finance major, boasts a 3.985 grade point average. She garnered student-athlete of the week honors twice last year.
