UTC's Jones Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 28 through April 3. Jones was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles play last week as the Mocs picked up a pair of SoCon wins with victories over Mercer (4-2) and Wofford (6-1),

Playing at No. 1 singles, Jones earned two straight-set wins last week.  The senior topped Mercer’s Katia Stravroulaki, 6-3, 6-4 and downed Wofford’s Catherine Martin, 6-1, 6-1.  Jones is now 13-5 on the year and owns a 10-3 mark at No. 1 singles this spring.

UTC’s tandem of Jones and Kelsey Coots improved to 13-3 at No. 1 doubles this spring with a pair of wins last week.  Jones and Coots blanked Mercer’s Stravroulaki and Coots, 6-0 before topping Wofford’s Kalli Karas and Cassidy Hicks, 6-4. 

Chattanooga (11-6, 3-1 SoCon) returns to action Saturday (April 9), when the Mocs visit Furman (10-8, 3-0 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Lyn Yee Choo, Furman’s Ansley Speaks and Samford’s Carita Moolman.
