SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU senior Lyn Yee Choo has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held April 20-26, the league office announced Wednesday.
Choo helped lead the Bucs’ women’s tennis team to its first SoCon championship in program history over the weekend, recording a 2-0 mark at No. 1 singles en route to the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award. The Kuching, Malaysia, native bested Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones, 6-4, 6-1, in ETSU’s 4-0 semifinal win before dismissing Samford’s Jessica Northcutt by a 6-0, 6-1 count in the title match on Sunday.
Ranked No. 12 in the ITA Ohio Valley Region rankings, Choo is 16-4 in singles play and has combined for an 11-6 mark in doubles with partner Ana Gerbasi this season. She was named to the All-SoCon first team in singles and teamed with Gerbasi to earn first-team All-SoCon recognition in doubles.
Choo, who also garnered SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 3, has a 3.98 grade point average. She is majoring in computing with multiple concentrations in information systems and information technology.
