SPARTANBURG, S.C. – High Point’s Michael LeClair and Mercer’s Mike Nugent have been named Southern Conference Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games played April 19-25, the league office announced Tuesday.
LeClair, a junior attacker from Elkridge, Md., netted three goals and dished out three assists in High Point’s 10-5 road win at Furman on Saturday. All of LeClair’s points came during a 6-1 Panther run to close out the game, and the performance marked his second straight six-point outing. LeClair has scored in 39 consecutive games, which is the seventh longest active streak in the country and the longest in program history.
This is LeClair’s second player of the week honor of the season. He leads the SoCon in assists per game (1.85) and points per game (3.77).
Nugent made his mark for Mercer in goal by stopping a season-high 20 shots and recording a save percentage of .800 in a 12-5 victory at Jacksonville. The senior from Milton, Ga., also collected a team-high five ground balls in the contest. Nugent has now made 20 or more saves four times during his career. He ranks third in the nation in career saves among active Division I players with 621.
Nugent, who also earned defensive player of the week accolades on March 22, is third in the SoCon in saves per game (11.17).
Regular-season play will conclude this Saturday with a slate of four league games. The 2016 SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be held Thursday, May 5, and Saturday, May 7, at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va.
