GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Southern Conference, in conjunction with the Greenville Drive baseball team, held an introductory luncheon at Fluor Field today (April 26) in advance of next month’s Southern Conference baseball tournament to be held in Greenville, S.C.  Members of the Greenville local organizing committee, convention and visitor’s bureau and numerous local officials were on hand.

Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino addressed the group, highlighting the various promotional elements that are tied to this year’s tournament.  Commissioner Iamarino also described the partnership between the conference and the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville.  That relationship will bring patients from the hospital and their family members to the park on Saturday, May 28.  Earlier in the week, Southern Conference mascots will visit the hospital to interact with patients.

In addition over 300 children from the area will be in attendance during games on Tuesday and Wednesday of the tournament (May 24-25).

“Fluor Field is a wonderful venue for our tournament and with the cooperation we’re receiving from the Drive, the Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Furman, Wofford and the many local volunteers, we’re anticipating a great week of college baseball,” said Iamarino. 

In addition to youth events at the tournament, local organizers have partnered with numerous local restaurants and establishments with each one serving as a designated headquarters each night of the tournament.  The Greenville Drive will host their traditional Dollar Drink Night Thursday (May 26) and postgame fireworks on Friday (May 27).  Local youth participating in area recreational sports are admitted free on Friday, with a paying adult. 

The Southern Conference baseball tournament is scheduled to be held in Greenville in 2016 and 2017.  The event was previously held at Fluor Field in 2009, 2012 and 2013.
