SPARTANBURG, S.C. – High Point’s Dan Lomas and Zack Price have been named Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games played April 12-18, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lomas, a senior attacker, tallied five goals and an assist as High Point (7-5, 3-2 SoCon) used a strong offensive showing to down Jacksonville in a conference matchup on Saturday, 14-10. Three of his goals came in the first half, and the Burlington, Ontario, native provided two more in the third quarter to help give the Panthers separation. Lomas’ six points in the contest tied a career high, while his five goals were just one short of matching HPU’s program record.
Lomas leads the SoCon with 2.67 goals per game. He is currently a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which honors the attributes of NCAA Division I senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.
Price, a fellow Panther, served as a disruptive force on defense against the Dolphins by causing three turnovers and collecting a career-high six ground balls. He and the HPU defense held JU scoreless during a key 19-minute stretch in the second half, opening the door for a decisive 6-0 run.
Price leads the Panthers with 14 caused turnovers on the season.
SoCon lacrosse action resumes Saturday with four league games.
Other nominees for offense: Chris Walsch (Air Force), Dakota Rohlin (Jacksonville), Lucas Wittenberg (Mercer) and Dan Ginestro (Richmond).
Other nominees for defense: Doug Gouchoe (Air Force) and Henry Buonagurio (Richmond).
