SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Cameron Green has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 11-17. Green was 4-0 in all competition last week as the Paladins held off Wofford (4-3) and defeated Mercer (5-2) to close the regular season.

Competing at No. 2 singles, Green claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Wofford’s Parks Thompson.  He then got past Mercer’s Arnav Mohanty.  After claiming the first set 7-6 (7-5), Green dropped the second set, 2-6.  With Green holding a 2-0 lead in the third set, Mohanty was forced to retire.

The sophomore paired with Alex Steryous at No. 2 doubles for the Paladins.  Furman’s duo claimed a 6-3 win over Wofford’s Haris Poric and Andrew Graham and then took a 7-6 (6-4) decision over Mohanty and Sam Philp of Mercer.

Furman (11-10, 5-2 SoCon) earned the No. 3 seed in this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament.  The Paladins will face sixth-seeded UNCG (9-12, 2-5 SoCon) Friday in the opening round.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Rogerio Ribeiro, Mercer’s Anderson Scarpa, UNCG’s Warren Bryan, Samford’s Fares Kilani and Chattanooga’s John Peacey.
