SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced the pairings and times for the 2016 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships today (April 16). ETSU won the league’s regular season crown and earned the top seed in the eight-team tournament that will be held Friday through Sunday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Bucs captured the regular season championship outright after a 7-0 win at The Citadel on Saturday. ETSU will open the tournament Friday at 8:30 a.m. against the eight-seeded Citadel Bulldogs. The winner of that match will advance to face either No. 4 Mercer or No. 5 Wofford. The Bears and Terriers will also square off at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning.
The Furman Paladins earned the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 UNCG at 10:30 a.m. The final quarterfinal of the day will pit No. 2 Samford against No. 7 Chattanooga at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday’s semifinal matchups will begin at 10:00 a.m. and Sunday’s title match is set for 1:00 p.m.
Furman leads all current Southern Conference programs with 14 tournament titles. Chattanooga has won the league’s tournament 12 times, while ETSU has won eight championships. Samford captured the conference tournament in 2011 and 2013, while UNCG won in 2010.
