SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga sophomore Megan Woods has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held April 6-12, the league office announced Wednesday.
Woods, who competes on the Mocs’ women’s golf team, earned her first collegiate win by claiming the individual crown in a playoff at the 2016 SoCon Women’s Golf Championship at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. The Spring Branch, Texas, native fired a 2-over 218 (75-71-72) across 54 holes – a career-best total – before edging Furman’s Alice Chen in a five-hole playoff. Woods had a medalist-clinching birdie putt lip out on the third playoff hole, but she tapped in a 3-foot par putt on No. 5 to finally bring an end to the duel for first place.
With the win, Woods became UTC’s fifth SoCon medalist in sixth years. She helped the Mocs to a second-place finish at the championship.
Woods boasts a 4.0 grade point average and is majoring in accounting. The National Honor Society student was a member of the Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll as a freshman.
