SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Robert Herrera has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 4-10. Herrera went 6-0 in all competition last week as the Buccaneers picked up three wins over Middle Tennessee (6-1), Chattanooga (4-0) and Mercer (7-0).

Herrera stretched his winning streak to 11 matches in singles play and he now owns a mark of 17-2 this spring.  The sophomore won three matches in straight sets last week, defeating Middle Tennessee’s Gian Issa, 7-5, 6-4 and UTC’s John Peacy, 6-0, 6-2.  Herrera closed the week with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mercer’s Anderson Scarpa.

Herrera teamed up with Diego Nunez at No. 2 doubles and the ETSU pair went 3-0 last week to improve their unbeaten streak to nine matches.  Herrera and Nunez downed MTSU’s Gonzalo Morell and Dima Zyhmantovich,

6-1, and claimed a 6-2 decision over UTC’s Peacy and Derrick Brown.  Herrera and Nunez then held off Mercer’s Sam Philp and Arnav Mohanty, 6-3.

ETSU (14-5, 6-0 SoCon) has an opportunity to clinch the Southern Conference regular season championship on Saturday when the Bucs visit The Citadel (8-26, 0-5 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Mercer’s Sam Philp, UNCG’s Gaston Murray and Samford’s Trey Carter.
