SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Xandra Fougner has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 29 through March 6. Fougner went 5-1 last week as Mercer topped Kennesaw State (6-1) and Stetson (4-3) before falling to Troy (5-2).

Fougner won three straight-set matches at No. 2 singles last week. The Biot, France, native held off Kennesaw State’s Cristina Martin, 6-3, 6-4, and topped Stetson’s Maja Salibasic, 6-4, 6-3. Fougner closed the week with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Troy’s Hannah Seizer.

Paired with Katie Sidor at No. 3 doubles, Fougner went 2-1 last week as the duo topped KSU’s Jessica Cantrell and Alexandra Mercado, 6-3, and beat Stetson’s Carolina Meregalli and Alexandra Lyubimova, 6-0, before falling to Troy’s Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky, 6-2.

Mercer (7-7) returns to the courts Thursday (March 10) when the Bears host Evansville.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Melissa Esguerra, UNCG’s Masey DeMoss, Samford’s Savannah Wood, Chattanooga’s Katie Polk, Western Carolina’s Stacia Kissell and Wofford’s Cassidy Hicks.
