SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Adam Steryous has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 29 through March 6. Steryous was 4-0 in all competition last week as the Paladins topped USC Upstate (6-1) before falling to UC Irvine (4-3).

Steryous improved to 6-5 at No. 1 singles this spring with a pair of wins last week. The Taylors, S.C., native defeated USC Upstate’s Ramon Simonett, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) to open the week and then claimed a convincing 6-2, 6-0 over UC Irvine’s Sebastian Heim.

In doubles play, Steryous teamed with Josh Pistorius at No. 3 doubles and the pair earned a 6-0 decision over USC Upstate’s Matt Bennion and Jamie Yates. Steryous then moved up to No. 2 doubles and paired with Cameron Green for a 6-4 win over UC Irvine’s Tyler Pham and Jonathan Howard.

Furman (5-7) returns to action March 19 when the Paladins host Chattanooga (4-8).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Rogerio Ribeiro, UNCG’s Warren Bryan, Samford’s Fares Kilani and Chattanooga’s Paul LaHue.
