SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s AnnaRose Borrelli and ETSU’s Lindsey Fadnek have been named Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games held Feb. 29-March 6. Selections are made by the league office.
Borrelli, a first baseman for the Paladins, nabbed her second weekly honor this season by hitting four homers and tallying 13 RBIs in six games. The sophomore from Matthews, N.C., posted a .412 average (7-for-17) for the week and a 1.176 slugging percentage. On Friday, Borrelli hit a three-run shot and recorded an RBI single in a 17-7 win over Indiana State before capping the day with an eighth-inning grand slam to beat Lipscomb, 7-3. She then went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in a 5-3 triumph over Youngstown State on Saturday and ended the week by blasting a solo shot against Troy on Sunday.
Fadnek garnered pitcher of the week honors by striking out 21 batters and registering a 1.50 ERA in 14 innings of action. The junior from Coalfield, Tenn., went 2-0 for the weekend. On Friday, she allowed two hits and struck out four batters over four innings of work in a 6-0 shutout of Alabama A&M. Fadnek then pitched eight innings, giving up three hits and fanning a career-high 14 batters in a 4-3 victory over Morehead State. Her 14 strikeouts marked the third most in a game in program history. Fadnek recorded only three walks across her three appearances.
The SoCon softball slate continues on Tuesday when Samford travels to No. 4 Alabama for an 8:30 p.m. (EST) contest.
