COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Bellarmine Knights dropped a 9-5 decision to the host Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon in the Midwest Lacrosse Classic played in Ohio Stadium (the Horseshoe).

The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Tucker Ciessau and Jack Perkins each registered goals in the game's first 5:32.

However, Bellarmine's offense then hit a dry spell that lasted until the 3:58 mark of the third period when Daniel Zamora scored his second goal of the season. During that span, the Buckeyes scored six times.

After Zamora's goal-the only score by either team in the third quarter-Ohio State reeled off three straight to take control of the game. Bellarmine's Brian Wall and Ciessau added late goals to make the final margin four.

The Knights owned a 37-24 shot advantage, but the Buckeyes led in shots on goal 18-14.

The remaining statistics were very even. Each team had nine saves; each team had 23 groundballs; each team won eight faceoffs. However, the Buckeyes were not flagged for any penalties while the Knights had three with OSU going 1-3 in extra man opportunities.

Bellarmine slips to 2-4 on the season, and Ohio State improves to 5-1.

The Knights return to action on March 12 as they open Southern Conference play with a home contest against Mercer. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
