SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Jessica Northcutt has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 21-27. Northcutt was a perfect 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bulldogs earned a pair of wins over Mercer (6-1) and UNCG (7-0).

Northcutt claimed a pair of wins at No. 1 singles for the Bulldogs last week. The senior claimed a three-set win over Mercer’s Katia Stravroulaki (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and topped UNCG’s Soumeya Anane, 6-4, 6-3. Northcutt has now won three of her last five matches at No. 1 singles.

The team of Northcutt and Carita Moolman ran its winning streak to four matches at No. 1 doubles as Samford’s top pair picked up a 7-6 win over Mercer’s Stravroulaki and Grace Korta before claiming a 6-0 decision over UNCG’s Anane and Amy Ellis.

Samford (7-8, 2-0 SoCon) returns to the courts Friday (April 1) when the Bulldogs host Western Carolina (9-6, 0-3 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Lyn Yee Choo and UNCG’s Sarah Swiderski.
