Samford Tops UNCG Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 in Southern Conference play with a 7-0 win over UNCG Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Complex.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in league matches. Samford has now won 13-straight SoCon matches, dating back to 2014.  UNCG falls to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in SoCon play.
 
Samford got off to a strong start, sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Carita Moolman and Jessica Northcutt defeated Soumeya Anane and Amy Ellis, 6-0. At No. 2, Annika Hepp and Ellie Gerlach earned a 6-3 win over Sarah Swiderski and Blaine Boaz. Savannah Wood and Iva Parapunova defeated Yasmin Franco and Masey DeMoss, 7-6 at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles, at the No. 1 spot, Northcutt defeated Anane, 6-4, 6-3. Moolman defeated Swiderski, 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3 singles, Parapunova earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ellis.
 
At No. 4 singles, Wood defeated DeMoss, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Gerlach defeated Boaz, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. At the No. 6 position, Hepp defeated Nancy Bridges, 7-6, 6-2.
