SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Henry Kiedy and The Citadel’s Capers Williamson have been tabbed Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week on the men’s side, while Wofford’s LeAndrea Combo and ETSU’s Ashley Kessler claimed honors on the women’s side, the league office announced Wednesday. Selections were made by a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition through March 22.
Kiedy, a sophomore, clocked times of 21.64 seconds and 47.9 seconds in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, respectively, at the Charlotte 49er Classic over the weekend. Both are currently SoCon-best marks. The Knightdale, N.C., native also anchored the Catamounts’ 4x100-meter relay team, which recorded a SoCon-leading mark of 41.30 seconds en route to a third-place finish at the meet.
Capers nabbed men’s field honors by finishing third in the javelin throw at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The senior’s toss of 70.44 meters (231’ 1”) broke his own school record by 12 feet. His mark is tops in the SoCon and ranks 11th nationally.
Combo garnered track honors on the women’s side after breaking a pair Wofford records at the Charlotte 49er Classic. The freshman from Charlotte, N.C., broke her first record in a 26.03-second effort in the 200-meter dash before setting another school mark with a time of 57.81 in the 400-meter dash.
Kessler claimed women’s field honors after winning the pole vault at the Charlotte 49er Classic with a mark of 3.80 meters (12’ 5.5”). Her effort is tied for first in the league.
