SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Connor Thompson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 14-20. Thompson was 3-0 in all competition last week for the Spartans. UNCG topped East Carolina, 4-3, before falling to Samford, 5-2.

Thompson posted a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles for the Spartans. The Atlanta, Ga., native raced past ECU’s Tendai Tapfuma (6-2, 6-2) and topped Samford’s Fares Kilani (6-1, 6-2). The sophomore is now 9-4 at No. 1 singles and has won five of his last six matches for UNCG.

Thompson teamed with Daniel Mack at No. 2 doubles, where UNCG’s top tandem earned a 6-2 win over ECU’s Vlad Anghel and Fredric Lehfeldt. Thompson and Mack have won their last seven doubles matches together and are 10-2 this spring.

UNCG (7-6, 1-1 SoCon) returns to action March 26 when the Spartans visit ETSU (7-5, 1-0 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Adam Steryous and Samford’s Trey Carter.
