SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Katarina Weymouth has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 14-20. Weymouth was a perfect 4-0 in all competition last week as the Paladins claimed victories over IUPUI (6-1) and Mercer (6-1).

Weymouth posted a pair of wins at No. 2 singles last week as she opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over IUPUI’s Rachel Swartwood before earned a three-set victory over Mercer’s Xandra Fougner (6-2, 4-6, 6-2). The two wins last week moved Weymouth to 10-5 in singles play this spring. The freshman has now won five of her last six matches for the Paladins.

The London, England, native paired with Ansley Speaks at No. 1 singles and Furman’s top pair ran its winning streak to four matches with two more victories. Weymouth and Speaks downed IUPUI’s Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif, 6-2, before holding off Mercer’s Grace Korta and Katia Stravroulaki, 6-3.

Furman (8-8, 1-0 SoCon) returns to the courts March 30 when the Paladins host Wofford (8-4, 1-1 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Regina Nychytailova, Samford’s Jessica Northcutt and Western Carolina’s Stacia Kissell.
