SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer sophomore Meghan Rud has been named General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held March 9-15, the league office announced Wednesday.
An outfielder on the Bears’ softball team, Rud hit .350 (7-for-20) and tallied five RBIs as she helped her team to five wins in seven games last week. The Cumming, Ga., native played every inning across the seven contests in center field and proved to be a threat on the base paths, scoring nine runs and stealing four bases. She drew seven walks on the week on the way to a stellar .519 on-base percentage.
Rud had her best outing in Mercer’s doubleheader against Florida A&M on Wednesday. She went 4-for-6 with six runs, three RBIs, three walks and a stolen base in a pair of wins for the Bears. Rud leads Mercer in runs (20) and walks (13) and is second on the team in batting average (.315), hits (28), on-base percentage (.402) and stolen bases (11).
Rud is a psychology major and currently owns a 3.83 grade point average.
