SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Air Force swept Southern Conference men’s lacrosse weekly honors for the second time this season, as midfielder Christopher Allen and goalkeeper Doug Gouchoe earned offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for games played March 8-14, the league office announced Tuesday.
Allen, a senior, played a big role in Air Force’s 14-4 home win over Furman on Saturday, which marked the program’s first-ever SoCon contest. The Hillsborough, N.J., native netted four goals and added an assist in the victory for a total of five points. Allen has recorded 10 points in his last three games and ranks second on the team with 11 goals and 15 points this season.
Gouchoe earned his third defensive player of the week honor of the season by limiting the Paladins to three goals in 51 minutes of action. The senior from Concord, Mass., stopped seven shots for a .700 save percentage. He ranks second in the SoCon in goals against average (7.35) and save percentage (.544), marks that are good for ninth and 13th in the nation, respectively.
SoCon lacrosse continues Tuesday when VMI hosts Monmouth at 3 p.m. in a nonconference clash.
Other nominees for offense: Tucker Ciessau (Bellarmine) and Matt Thistle (High Point).
Other nominees for defense: Kevin Fahey (Bellarmine) and Richard Byrd (High Point).
