SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Justin Ghavami has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 7-13. Ghavami was 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bears claimed wins over Belmont (6-1) and Wofford (5-2).

Ghavami improved to 7-3 in singles play this spring with a pair of wins at No. 3. The Montreal, Canada, native rallied for a 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 win over Belmont’s Adam Rudowksi and posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Wofford’s Parks Thompson. Ghavami has won four of his last five singles matches at the No. 3 position.

The sophomore was paired with Fares Kilani at No. 3 doubles and Samford’s duo earned a pair of wins as it cruised to a 6-2 win over Belmont’s Caio Niel and Bruno Russo before closing the week with a 6-0 victory over Wofford’s David Sklar and Jack Thomas.

Samford (7-4, 1-1 SoCon) returns to action Saturday, March 19, when the Bulldogs visit UNCG (6-5, 1-0 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel’s Artemi Amari, ETSU’s Robert Herrera, Furman’s Adam Steryous, Mercer’s Nicholas Guillon and UNCG’s Connor Thompson.
