MESA, Ariz. – The UNCG women’s golf team closed out the Notre Dame Clover Cup in 16th place in the 54-hole event hosted by Notre Dame at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The Spartans return to action March 20-22 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Cookeville, Tenn.

The Spartans finished the event with a 91-over-par 955, posting scores of 324-307-324. Nationally ranked SMU won the event by eight strokes with a 6-under-par 858 (285-292-281). Brooke Graebe of TCU won the individual title with a 6-under 210 (67-72-71).

Freshman Natalia Asensio was the Spartans’ top finisher, placing 55th overall at 17-over-par 233. Asensio opened the event with a 4-over-par 75 in round one before notching a career-low 1-under 71 in round two. She closed out the weekend with her highest round, carding an 87.

Redshirt freshman Savanna Mackie moved up to 59th place overall. Mackie posted an 18-over 234. She posted back-to-back rounds of 79 before turning in a 4-over 76 in the final round.

Sophomore Lexi Kershaw placed 68th overall with a 21-over par 237. Kershaw rebounded from a tough first round of 86 to post rounds of 77 and 74to close out the weekend.

Junior Kristin Powers finished 76th playing as an individual with a 25-over par 241 (76-85-80). Maddi MacClurg finished in 97th place overall, while classmate Emily Kurey was 98th overall.

Joining the Spartans in the field include host Notre Dame, TCU, SMU, USF, Oklahoma, UNCW, FIU, Tulsa, Penn State, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Central Arkansas, Columbia, IUPUI and Central Michigan.
